Terms of Service

The TL;DR. Use the service in good faith. Don't try to break it or read other users' data. The operator is one person and provides the service "as is" — no SLA, no warranty, no liability beyond what the law requires. The MIT-licensed source code is on GitHub.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using Sparky Reads, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. The service

Sparky Reads is a personal reading tracker offered as a hosted web service at reads.lovespark.love and as MIT-licensed open-source software at github.com/Joona-t/lovespark-reads. The hosted service is operated by Joona Tyrninoksa as a sole proprietor in Finland.

3. Account

You authenticate via OAuth with GitHub or Google. You are responsible for keeping access to that provider account secure.
One natural person per account. Do not register accounts for other people without their consent.
You may delete your account at any time. See Privacy Policy §6 for details.

4. Acceptable use

Don't:

Attempt to access other users' data, exploit security vulnerabilities, or interfere with the service for other users.
Use the service to store unlawful content (e.g. CSAM, content that infringes third-party rights, content that threatens or harasses other people).
Send automated traffic that exceeds reasonable use (the rate limit is 100 requests / minute / IP — please don't try to circumvent it).
Reverse-engineer the service to extract OAuth provider credentials or signing keys.

Do, freely:

Self-host the entire stack on your own machine. The MIT license grants you that right unconditionally.
Export your data via /api/me/export at any time, for any reason.
Build on top of the source code in your own projects, subject to the MIT license terms.

5. Pricing and billing

The free tier is free forever and includes every functional feature of the service. There are no artificial limits on free users beyond the rate limit described in §4.

Optional paid tiers (when launched) will be billed transparently. Cancellation takes effect immediately; pre-paid time is refunded pro-rata except in the case of fraud or abuse.

6. Open source

The source code is available under the MIT license. Any contribution you submit to the project (pull request, issue, etc.) is licensed under the same MIT license.

7. Service availability

This is a one-person open-source project. The hosted service is provided as-is, with no uptime SLA, no warranty of fitness for any particular purpose, and no commitment to long-term operation. Plan for portability — export your data periodically (see Privacy Policy §6).

8. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the fees you paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim, or €0 if you have not paid for any tier. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (e.g. for gross negligence, intentional misconduct, or death/personal injury caused by negligence).

9. Termination

You can terminate your account at any time by visiting Settings → Delete account. The operator may terminate accounts that violate the acceptable use rules in §4, with reasonable notice where practical.

10. Changes

The operator may update these terms. Material changes will be announced via the dashboard at least 14 days before they take effect.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by Finnish law. Disputes will be resolved by the courts of Helsinki, Finland, except where mandatory consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring an action in your home jurisdiction.
